The Gardens

The gardens. I love to grow flowers. I am much better at it then veggies. I have not figured out why but I am ok with it. 

 The photo above and below are two of our gardens. We did nothing with them this year and they are just amazing!!! They are just wonderful with color and how full they are. we are just amazed that they came out like this year. It is just a very nice surprise.

The image below it of what we think are pumpkins, well we a re pretty sure they are. They started to grow in the compost bin and we we moved them to this spot to see what happen. And well they are growing like. My grandfather grew pumpkins every year. I like to think that it is his way of letting us know that he is still looking out for us.

A book

Over the past weekend we were int he Berkshires visiting my Grandmother and my Aunt. It was a great weekend. We all had a blast, lots of good times had by all. My Aunt knows that I have love of old books. Especially old cookbooks. This book that she gave to me is amazing. It was last published in 1909 by the Success Company in New York. It is titled Household Discoveries and Mrs. Curtis's Cook Book. 

  

 Here I found several four leaf clovers that someone had pressed in the book. How wonderful, it made me smile when I saw them. There is also a recipe for red hot relish that put in with the clovers.

 The illustrations that are in the book are beautiful. There are very few colored ones and they are amazing. and so are the recipes I can not wait to try some.

 There are some interesting information in the book. It covers all sorts of things from cleaning, workshops, sewing, skin and health, taking care of others, even metal and their alloys and melting points. Such a wonderful thing to be given to us.

I am a very lucky lady to have people to have so many people in my life who care and think of me and of course my family. I wanted to share this wonderful book with you. If I remember I will share with you all how things that I try from the book turn out. Sounds like fun to me.

June Quilt update

My quilt project. I feel as if it has been a very longtime in making. But the top is done!!! The top picture is of me putting the last rows together. I put most of this top together by hand. I have learned so much form making this. Quinn is so excited about it. 

 This is what the top looks like in its full glory. I am standing behind it holding up. That should give you some idea of how large this is. I am 5'7".

 He is Quinn testing it out for me. I think that it will work. This has been a fun and fabulous project. I have put a lot of work and thought into it. The bottom of the quilt will have a baseball print. I am excited to start the quilting process. Hopefully it will not take me as long as the top. Quinn has already told me he would like before it get cold again. I better get started then.

Duck tape

The company that I work for has been having a few art/craft contests, they have been great fun for us. The last one was using duck tape. Quinn had this fabulous idea of making a diorama. How fabulous! We use black, white, and camo colored duck tape. We made a jungle with a black jaguar. Well I should really say that Quinn did, all I did was put the tape where he wanted it.
It came out great.

salvage

On Saturday my family and I went to Rustorder Salvage in Hopdale. If was amazing!! We all had a blast. Steve and I were in our prime and Quinn loved being told he could touch things.
It is a great place and the owner Eric More is wicked nice. It is open on Saturday to the public and by appointments all other days. It was fabulous. I found some boxes of fabulous rusted punches, if only I had a ton money. There were also benches that would be perfect for any studio or shop.

In the Studio

 It has been a wonderful month! The weather is finally nice, and I can get in the studio and work without a problem. Not worries about heating it or snow or anything.  It is so nice.
The above photo is of me soldering a new project. So exciting!! It will the first in a new series more to come about it latter. The bottom is of all the projects in the works on my bench. It look like I have a lot of work to do. Can not wait to spend more time in there, now that I can easily.

I am excited and inspired when spring comes and the snow is all gone and things start to grow. I am not much of a winter person, it makes me hibernate. Oh well spring is here, and it time to get to work.

Bird houses

On Sunday we made some bird houses. It was a blast and a great family project. Also a great idea to do on mothers day. 

We used left over wood from our fire that we had Saturday night. Quinn and I worked on the roofs, we attached beer caps to color and funk. While Steve worked on putting the bodies of the houses together. 

 Are they not fabulous? I love them!! They add to our quirky little yard and make me smile.

 Hopefully some birds will move into them next year. I do believe that all of our other house have family's in them right now. This was a great way for all of us to spend some time outside and together making.
